AIN 2005 - What I am most looking forward to
As I look at the conference coming up, what am I most looking forward to? It's not any one individual session or set of sessions (though the The Joy of Singing™ session comes close). It's not what I'll learn to make my work in this workd more effective, though I will learn. It's not about personal growth, though I'll grow. It's simply about playing and being in the company of wonderful freinds, colleagues and newcommers who share a kindred spirit. And ultimately it's about loving and being loved.

(Site comment feed)I really debated this year about whether to come or not. Initially, I was a little involved with some of the planning, but life got busy and I didn't end up participating as I'd hoped. I always get this weird "high school" feeling in groups, feeling like I don't really fit in. I mean, after all, I'm really an instructional designer who dabbles in acting and takes improv classes in my spare time. Sure, I occasionally facilitate and have used improv in that work, but I'm not a true IMPROV EXPERT like everyone else is...
Finally, it came down to whether or not I got a roommate. Yup--I said, "OK, if I get a roommate to share costs with, I'll go." Luckily, Yael was willing to have me and was one of the people I connected with last year. SO, fate places me in NYC for the conference.
NOW, if I remember correctly, I had a blast and learned a ton last year (including the joys of drinking cider bombs and playing BINGO while eating sushi). So, putting my fragile ego aside, I will humbly place myself in the midst of the amazing group of people I met last year, and a few new experts, I'm sure. And someday, I will take the full Joy of Singing program. So this sometimes actress (unpaid, of course), wannabe singer, and e-learning designer/writer, is looking forward to a great time, many laughs, and maybe even tears (again). L'chaim!
