Sharon Sutherland (B.A.,
M.A., LL.B., LL.M.) is Clinical Instructor in Dispute
Resolution at the University of British Columbia Faculty
of Law. Sharon maintains a private mediation practice
with a focus on child protection mediation and community
mediation. She is committed to expanding opportunities
for training mediators in BC and volunteers her time as
Secretary of the BC Dispute Resolution Practicum Society
and President and Mentor with CoRe Conflict Resolution
Society. Prior to joining the faculty at UBC Law School,
Sharon was Program Manager of the Court Mediation Practicum
Program for 5 years.
Before entering law school, Sharon was engaged in graduate
work in Drama and Theatre Studies. She received her
M.A. in Drama and Theatre Studies from the University
of London, and has completed all work but her thesis
towards a Ph.D. in Drama from the University of Toronto.
Her delight in integration of ideas and interdisciplinary
studies has led her to focus on the opportunities for
theatrical techniques to engage, stimulate, and inspire
creative thought in the world of law and mediation.
Sharon seeks opportunities to integrate her passion
for creative expression with her work in conflict resolution
and mediation, and, in partnership with Carrie Gallant,
has recently launched Creativity Zone - a company committed
to enhancing creativity in mediation.
