Tiffany
von Emmel, improviser-at-large, enjoys working
as an organizational consultant and transformative educator
with leaders, consultants, and performing artists in
the U.S. and Europe. Tiffany is currently making a documentary
about how our bodies generate different kinds of transformative
knowledge in improvisation.
Her Ph.D. thesis is about the physical theater improvisation,
the body and transformative knowledge-creation. A popular
guest presenter in the organization development community
and at Fielding Graduate Institute, her seminars include
‘improvisation and the use of self in organizations’,
‘Improvisation Labs: a group workout for sustainability’
and ‘arts-based methods in research and practice’.
After a history in musical theater from the late 70’s
to 1980’s in New York, Tiffany helped launch National
Business Network, a 3M company. She then taught and
practiced Zen Shiatsu and somatics for ten years. In
the 1990’s, she founded The Empowerment Place,
a transformative education center for adults in California.
With doctoral studies in Human and Organization Development
at Fielding, Tiffany won a 2002 award from the Center
for Creative Inquiry and Academy of Management O.D.C.
division. She lives in San Francisco with her partner,
